Special Olympics - Be A Fan!

We are pleased to announce that, once again, proceeds from the Glide Floss Bridge to Bridge will go to Special Olympics Northern California.

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people eight years of age and older with developmental disabilities. These programs give athletes continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skill, and friendship with their families, other athletes and the community.

Special Olympics Northern California is proud to serve more than 13,000 individuals with developmental disabilities. There are training and competition opportunities year-round. The programs are free to all eligible athletes and are possible thanks to the generous support from individuals and businesses who believe in Special Olympics athletes.

Special Olympics athlete Brian Kretz of Novato receives a Summer Games medalOne such athlete is Brian Kretz, 31, of Novato who has run the Bridge to Bridge every year for the past five years.  Brian has been involved in Special Olympics since he was nine years old and has participated in swimming, softball, basketball and bowling, although his favorite sport is long distance running. Off the trails, Brian enjoys hiking, backpacking and fishing when he can find time off from his job as a courtesy clerk for the Novato Safeway Store.

Look for Brian at this year’s Glide Floss Bridge to Bridge run. He will be part of the No. 1 Team – Special Olympics athletes who will enjoy the morning alongside the many runners and walkers who are supporting Special Olympics.

Brian and his fellow athletes throughout the Bay Area and Northern California are grateful that proceeds from this event benefit Special Olympics, allowing them to experience the thrill of sports training and competition.

Please contact Special Olympics if you'd like to volunteer for the Bridge to Bridge;  they coordinate all 350+ volunteers we need for both Saturday and Sunday.

You may call Shannon Steffy at 925-944-0594, ext. 223 or visit http://www.sonc.org.
